Packers Set to Unleash a Bold New Look Against Lions—Fans Are in for a Treat!

The Green Bay Packers will debut their fourth jersey combination of the season in Week 9 when they face the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.

The team announced on Friday that they will wear the 50s Classic Uniforms, which have been a part of their alternate uniform rotation over the past few years.

The 50s Classic Uniform draws inspiration from the Packers’ uniforms worn between 1950 and 1953, marking the second period in the team’s history when they donned green and gold.

The design features all-green jerseys with gold numbers and stripes, matching green pants with gold stripes, and green socks.

Since 2021, the Packers have used these uniforms as alternates, sporting them against the Washington Commanders in 2021, the New York Jets in 2022, and the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023. They have a 2-1 record in these jerseys.

The Packers’ statement regarding the 50s theme explains:

“While the early 1950s were not a particularly successful time for the Packers on the field, it was the dawn of an extraordinarily eventful decade off the field, a decade that began with the departure of the team’s founder Curly Lambeau and ended with the arrival of Vince Lombardi.

In the 1950s, the NFL was growing quickly and gaining nationwide interest through television exposure.

The Packers organization was at a turning point, and a franchise-saving stock sale helped lay the groundwork for the eventual construction of Lambeau Field and set up the team to stay in Green Bay through modern times.”

The Packers’ standard uniforms include green jerseys for home games and yellow jerseys for away games, paired with yellow pants and helmets.

However, they will have used two other combinations by the end of the season.

Last week against the Houston Texans, the Packers wore an all-white ensemble, including alternative white helmets. Against the Lions in Week 9, they will wear their usual yellow helmets, but without the traditional “G” logo.

The NFL’s third jersey program allows teams to use a third jersey for up to three games per season (no more than two at home) over a five-year period.

This means the Packers can continue wearing the 50s Classic Uniforms until 2025.
