According to a report by Jeff Howe from The Athletic, some coaches who used to work with Belichick are getting ready to go with him to his new team. Howe mentions that Belichick’s new coaching staff might be similar to the ones he had in New England.
Although Howe doesn’t give details, there are some ex-assistants of Belichick who might be ready to join him. Josh McDaniels spent a lot of time working in New England as the Patriots offensive coordinator for a total of 13 years. Even though McDaniels hasn’t done well as a head coach before, he has proven that he can lead an offense successfully without Tom Brady. He played a big part in helping Mac Jones have a great first season in the NFL.
Since McDaniels has been without a job since he was fired by the Raiders, it is likely that he would be happy to join Bill Belichick’s coaching staff in the future. When it comes to defense, Belichick could easily bring his top assistant along by inviting him to a family get-together.
Steve Belichick helped lead the team’s defense with Jerod Mayo when his dad was the head coach. After his dad left the Patriots, Steve went to Washington to work as the defensive coordinator for the Huskies.
Steve’s Washington defense has been giving up more than 30 points per game in the past four games. Since the team is not doing well this season, it’s likely that Bill Belichick’s son might not face any objections if he decides to work with his father. However, before he can start putting together his team, he first needs to find a new job.
As mentioned by Howe, the famous coach won’t be interested in joining a team that is in the process of rebuilding, as he is aiming to break Don Shula’s record for most wins.
The person who used to plan for the Patriots will probably want to have complete control over the team, so it’s not clear if teams like the Cowboys, who already have a set way of doing things with owner Jerry Jones in charge, would be a good match. In the end, it seems like Belichick will find a job soon, and he seems to have a whole group of coaches ready to start working.
