Jimmie Johnson to Drive Legacy Motor Club’s No. 84 at Daytona and Charlotte in 2025

Legacy Motor Club has announced that seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson will return to competition in 2025, piloting the No. 84 Chevrolet in two marquee events: the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Sponsored by Carvana, this limited schedule marks a special milestone in Johnson’s legendary career, which includes 83 Cup Series wins and two Daytona 500 victories.

Daytona: A Historic 22nd Start

If Johnson successfully qualifies for the Daytona 500, it will mark his 22nd career start in the Great American Race. Johnson, who won the event in 2006 and 2013, remains one of the most decorated drivers in NASCAR history and has always been a force to be reckoned with on superspeedways.

The Daytona 500 also holds sentimental value for Johnson, as it is the race where his dominance in the Cup Series began to take shape. “The Daytona 500 has always been special to me, and to have the chance to return with Legacy Motor Club and Carvana is an incredible opportunity,” Johnson said in a press release. “This team is building something amazing, and I’m excited to be a part of it for these two races.”

Charlotte: Johnson’s 700th Career Start

Johnson’s second scheduled race of the year, the Coca-Cola 600, will mark his 700th career NASCAR Cup Series start. This milestone will come at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a track where Johnson has an unrivaled legacy, boasting eight career wins, including four in the Coca-Cola 600.

“Charlotte has always been a special track for me,” Johnson said. “To reach my 700th start in the sport I love, at a track that’s played such a huge role in my career, is something I’ll never forget.”

A Focused Schedule

The 2025 season will be Johnson’s second year as a co-owner of Legacy Motor Club, which has undergone significant changes since his arrival, including rebranding and a renewed focus on performance. Unlike his part-time campaign in 2023, Johnson’s schedule is limited to just these two high-profile events, underscoring the strategic nature of his return.

“I want to focus on quality over quantity,” Johnson explained. “These are two of the most important races on the calendar, and I’m approaching them with everything I’ve got.”

Carvana Partnership

Johnson’s longtime partner, Carvana, will continue its support as the primary sponsor of the No. 84 Chevrolet. The partnership, which began during Johnson’s transition to IndyCar, has remained strong as he returned to NASCAR in a leadership and part-time driving role.

“Carvana has been an incredible partner, and I’m thrilled to have them on board for these two races,” Johnson said. “Their support means so much to me, and I’m excited to represent them on the biggest stages.”

The Legacy Continues

As one of the most iconic figures in motorsports, Johnson’s return will undoubtedly attract significant attention from fans and competitors alike. Whether it’s his pursuit of another Daytona 500 victory or his celebration of a remarkable 700th start, Johnson’s 2025 campaign promises to be memorable.

The Daytona 500 is scheduled for February 16, while the Coca-Cola 600 will take place on May 25. Both events will provide Johnson with the opportunity to add new chapters to an already legendary career.
