The New York Jets have secured quarterback Justin Fields on a two-year, $40 million contract, with $30 million guaranteed. Fields, 26, is expected to take over as the Jets’ starting quarterback for the 2025 season, following the team’s decision to move on from veteran Aaron Rodgers.

Fields’ NFL journey began when the Chicago Bears selected him 11th overall in the 2021 draft. After three seasons in Chicago, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he started the 2024 season but eventually served as a backup to Russell Wilson. Despite the mid-season role change, Fields showcased his potential by throwing 11 touchdowns against just one interception in six starts.

The move to New York reunites Fields with wide receiver Garrett Wilson, his former teammate at Ohio State. Wilson, entering his fourth season with the Jets, has consistently surpassed 1,000 receiving yards each year. This reunion is anticipated to bolster the Jets’ offense, providing a familiar and dynamic connection on the field.

Under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, the Jets aim to leverage Fields’ mobility and playmaking abilities. The team’s offensive arsenal, featuring talents like Wilson and running back Breece Hall, positions Fields to thrive in an offense tailored to his strengths.

Fields’ arrival signifies a new chapter for the Jets as they strive to enhance their offensive performance and competitiveness in the upcoming season.
