Pelicans’ players Williamson and McCollum will not return for the rest of the NBA season.

The New Orleans Pelicans, who are out of the NBA playoffs, announced on Monday that they will be shutting down Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum for the remainder of the regular season.

Williamson has been dealing with a low back bone bruise from a fall during a game on March 19, while McCollum has been out due to a right foot bone bruise he got in a loss to Detroit on March 23.

This season has been another tough one for New Orleans, as injuries played a big role in their struggles. It all started with star guard Dejounte Murray breaking his hand in the first game of the season.

Later, Murray suffered a torn Achilles tendon, and 24-year-old big man Williamson missed time because of a hamstring strain.

Williamson made a strong comeback from that injury, ending the season with averages of 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, but he only participated in 30 games.

The former number one overall draft pick had hoped for a better outcome after playing a career-high 70 games in the 2023-24 season.

However, with just seven games remaining in the regular season, the Pelicans find themselves near the bottom of the Western Conference.
