Rockingham, NC — After a successful weekend that reignited the flame of racing nostalgia at Rockingham Speedway, Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent has shared a confident and compelling update on the track’s bid to bring back NASCAR’s top series.

Speaking with The Charlotte Observer, Sargent revealed that Rockingham is no longer just wishful thinking—it’s officially in the conversation.
“I feel comfortable, and am not saying anything out of line that, yes, we did everything we needed to do,” Sargent said. “It’s a process. But we are on the radar. We are in that process.”
The return of high-level racing to Rockingham has gained significant traction over the past year, thanks in part to recent infrastructure upgrades, fan engagement, and a surge in grassroots racing events. Track Enterprises, which took over operations of the historic venue, has been steadily rebuilding the facility’s reputation and capability to host major events.
While NASCAR has yet to formally announce any Cup Series dates for Rockingham, Sargent’s comments indicate that the groundwork has been laid—and that decision-makers within NASCAR are taking notice.
The statement has fueled excitement among fans and industry insiders who view Rockingham, affectionately known as “The Rock,” as a cornerstone of NASCAR history. The 1.017-mile oval last hosted a Cup race in 2004, and its potential return has long been the subject of fan campaigns and industry speculation.
With the track now “on the radar,” all eyes turn to NASCAR leadership to see whether the stars—and schedule—will align.
One thing is clear: Rockingham is no longer a long shot. It’s part of the conversation, and the engine of momentum is running strong.
