NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon is teaming up with Tom Cruise for a potential Days of Thunder sequel, set to release this April on Netflix. Check out the official trailer!”

NASCAR and Hollywood may be headed for another high-speed collaboration as NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon has revealed he’s had discussions with Tom Cruise about a potential sequel to the iconic 1990 racing film Days of Thunder.

In a recent interview, Gordon shared that while nothing is official yet, there is real interest behind the scenes. “Tom and I have talked about it,” Gordon said. “There’s definitely some excitement about revisiting that world—and bringing it into a modern NASCAR setting.”

Days of Thunder, directed by Tony Scott and starring Cruise as hotshot driver Cole Trickle, became an instant cult classic among racing fans. The film helped introduce NASCAR to a wider audience and featured memorable performances, intense race sequences, and a thundering soundtrack that still revs hearts decades later.

Now, more than 30 years since the checkered flag first waved for Days of Thunder, Gordon’s involvement has sparked hopes of a sequel that blends NASCAR’s rich past with its high-tech, high-stakes present.

Gordon, who has enjoyed a successful post-driving career as a broadcaster and executive with Hendrick Motorsports, sees the project as a chance to both honor the original and showcase the evolution of the sport.

“There’s a whole new generation of fans, drivers, and technology,” Gordon said. “A sequel could be the perfect bridge—something that pays tribute to the original while capturing what NASCAR is today.”

As of now, there’s no official greenlight from studios or production teams, and it remains to be seen whether Cruise, now 62, would return as Cole Trickle or pass the torch to a younger lead. But with Gordon’s connections in both NASCAR and media, the groundwork for a revival appears to be more than just wishful thinking.

Social media has already begun buzzing with fan speculation and dream casting. Names like Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, and even Bubba Wallace have popped up as potential stars if a sequel is made. Meanwhile, longtime fans of the original are excited by the idea of revisiting the high-octane drama that made Days of Thunder a fan favorite.

Whether it’s a full-blown sequel or a spiritual successor, one thing is certain: if Jeff Gordon and Tom Cruise are talking, the engines might just be starting to warm up.

Stay tuned—because this story, much like a NASCAR race, could turn fast.
