WASHINGTON — American taxpayers have now spent over $26 million during Donald Trump’s second term so he can play golf at one of his own courses.
On Saturday morning, Trump went to his golf course in West Palm Beach, which is near the county jail and just across the Intracoastal Waterway from Mar-a-Lago, his country club in Palm Beach.
This marks his 14th visit to that course and 18th visit to one of his courses since he was inaugurated on January 20. This means he has spent more than a quarter of his 69 days in office during his second term playing golf.
A HuffPost analysis, which references a 2019 report from the Government Accountability Office, reveals that Trump’s golf outings during his second term have already cost $26,127,531. This total includes expenses for moving his motorcade equipment and security staff, as well as the high costs of operating Air Force One.
The $26 million figure is based on costs from 2017, and it’s likely that expenses have increased since then.
During his first term, Trump’s choice to play golf at his own resorts led to a total cost of $151.5 million for taxpayers. Over those four years, he spent 293 days on one of his golf courses.
