BOSTON (AP) — On Friday night, the Boston Celtics set a new NBA record for the most 3-pointers made in a season during their game against the Phoenix Suns.
They broke the previous record held by the Golden State Warriors from two seasons ago when Payton Pritchard made the first 3-pointer of the night from the left side, bringing their total to 1,364 with 3:40 left in the second quarter.
Kristaps Porzingis matched the record by faking out a defender and then dribbling to his left to make a shot from the top with 9:37 remaining in the second quarter.
The Warriors had made 1,363 3-pointers in the 2022-23 season. Last season, Boston also ranked third in league history by hitting 1,351 3-pointers on their way to winning the NBA title.
The Celtics started the game with some exciting 3-pointers, including a bank shot from Jaylen Brown that went in from 35 feet just as the shot clock ran out, and a straight shot from Jayson Tatum who dribbled in from midcourt to hit a 29-footer a few minutes later.
