The Buffalo Bills are building a balanced, explosive offense.
With Josh Allen leading the way, bringing his usual dominance to the field every game, it’s the running game that’s now preventing defenses from focusing solely on pressuring Allen.
James Cook, who entered this season with high expectations for a breakout, is exceeding those hopes.
His performance has even caught the attention of Buffalo Bills legend and the franchise’s greatest running back, Thurman Thomas.
“I think it’s just him getting more and more confident in himself to be that guy,” Thomas said about Cook.
“If you take Josh [Allen] away from this offense, he’s the next guy up. He can catch, he can run, and he’s realizing, ‘You know what?
I’ve got a strong backup behind me too.’ It’s like, as much as I like Ray Davis, I don’t want him taking my carries either, right? So, I think he’s really comfortable in this offense now.
“They’re firing on all cylinders, especially in the run game, and this offensive line is stepping up, saying, ‘Hey, we want to run the ball.’ I love it.
It’s taking pressure off Josh. Right now, I think James Cook is playing at a Pro Bowl level,” Thomas added.
Cook is coming off last Sunday’s game in Seattle, where he hit a career milestone with over 100 rushing yards and more than two rushing touchdowns.
What’s perhaps most impressive is that Cook achieved this while Allen still managed over 300 total yards, showing that the Bills can execute a balanced run and pass attack in the same game.
Buffalo will aim to maintain this balanced offense against the Miami Dolphins this weekend as they seek to widen their lead in the AFC East.
