The Arizona Cardinals have made a significant move in bolstering their defense by signing free-agent edge rusher Josh Sweat to a four-year, $76.4 million contract, which includes $41 million guaranteed. This acquisition reunites Sweat with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles during Sweat’s tenure there.
Sweat, 28, is coming off a standout season with the Eagles, where he recorded eight sacks and 33 pressures in the regular season. His performance peaked during Super Bowl LIX, where he notched 2.5 sacks, playing a pivotal role in the Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Cardinals have been in need of a dominant edge rusher, and Sweat’s consistent production and familiarity with Gannon’s defensive schemes make him an ideal fit. This signing is expected to significantly enhance Arizona’s pass-rushing capabilities in the upcoming season.
