The Washington Commanders have signed wide receiver Michael Gallup to a one-year contract, marking his return to the NFL after a brief retirement. Gallup, 29, previously played six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, where he recorded 266 receptions for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Gallup’s most productive season came in 2019, when he amassed 1,107 receiving yards and six touchdowns. However, his performance declined following a torn ACL at the end of the 2021 season. After being released by the Cowboys in March 2024, Gallup signed with the Las Vegas Raiders but chose to retire before the season began.
The Commanders’ receiving corps now includes Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, Noah Brown, Luke McCaffrey, and Michael Gallup. Gallup reunites with head coach Dan Quinn, who was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator during Gallup’s tenure in Dallas.
Gallup’s return adds depth and experience to the Commanders’ offense, potentially bolstering their passing attack for the upcoming season.
