Cowboys’ Kicker Brandon Aubrey Misses Practice Due to Unexpected Reason

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been plagued by injuries early in the 2024 season, and those absences could have a significant impact on this weekend’s game.

However, the team is hopeful that key defensive players will return following their bye week, as they prepare for a crucial Week 8 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Two players, in particular, could make a difference:

cornerback DaRon Bland, who was placed on injured reserve before the season with a foot injury, has been designated for return, and star edge rusher Micah Parsons is working to recover from a high-ankle sprain he suffered during a win over the New York Giants.

On Wednesday, both Bland and Parsons were officially listed as “Did Not Participate” (DNP) at practice as they continued their efforts to return to the field.

They were joined on the DNP list by another surprising absentee—kicker Brandon Aubrey, who missed practice due to being called for jury duty. In a way, it was a very “America’s Team” moment.

Head coach Mike McCarthy expressed optimism about Parsons’ recovery but emphasized that his availability for the Week 8 game against the 49ers remains uncertain.

“He’s doing good. Micah is making progress,” McCarthy said. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared similar thoughts during his weekly radio appearance on 105.3

The Fan, while also advising caution. “You can’t tell today,” Jones noted. “We’re not going to be able to tell their availability until right at game time.”

As the Cowboys aim to bounce back against a 49ers team that will be missing key players Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey, having Parsons and Bland on the field could provide a much-needed boost.

In a tight game, however, perhaps no one is more important than the kicker, and Dallas will hope to have Brandon Aubrey back from his civic duty in time to make a difference.
