Cowboys’ Future Dez? Jerry Jones Draws Bold Parallels Between Rookie and Bryant

The Dallas Cowboys will be without wide receiver Brandin Cooks in Week 5 due to injury, opening up opportunities for others to step in.

One such player is rookie Ryan Journoy, a sixth-round pick who has yet to make his debut this season.

Despite a knee injury in training camp, Journoy impressed during the preseason, tallying seven receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is optimistic about the young receiver, even drawing a bold comparison to Cowboys legend Dez Bryant during an interview on 105.3 The FAN.

“He’s got Dez Bryant stuff to him,” Jones said, highlighting Journoy’s athleticism and potential.

While Jones is clearly high on Journoy, it’s uncertain how significant his role will be with Cooks sidelined.

Other receivers like KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Tolbert are more likely to see increased targets from quarterback Dak Prescott.

However, Journoy, a former standout at Southeast Missouri State, has shown flashes of being a possible weapon for Dallas.

Facing a strong Pittsburgh Steelers team that holds a 3-1 record, the Cowboys—currently 2-2—are in a must-win situation to avoid falling below .500.

Whether he can reach Bryant’s level remains to be seen, but the opportunity to make an impact is there if he earns more playing time.

Dallas enters Week 5 with key players like Cooks, Micah Parsons, and DeMarcus Lawrence unavailable.

Sunday Night Football kicks off at 5:20 PM PT, and the Cowboys will be looking to pull off a win despite the obstacles.
