Michael Irvin Urges Jerry Jones to Make Bold Move for Cowboys’ Next Head Coach

In the hours leading up to the boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made an appearance on Netflix’s pre-fight show alongside franchise legend Michael Irvin.

Much of their conversation focused on the spectacle being hosted at AT&T Stadium (curtains down, by the way) on Saturday.

However, Irvin couldn’t resist slipping in a comment that grabbed the attention of Cowboys fans.

While discussing the fight, Irvin playfully teased Jones, hinting at a conversation about none other than NFL legend and current Colorado head coach, Deion Sanders.

“I give him respect like I did (the great) Deion Sanders, who didn’t go the normal route, and who I’ll be on Jerry’s ears about later,” Irvin said on the broadcast.

“That’s just something else we’re talking about.”

Sanders’ name has been circulating among Cowboys and NFL fans, as he’s currently one of the most influential figures in football.

After the impressive turnaround he’s orchestrated in Colorado, he’s garnered attention from those seeking a program builder with his proven college success.

Given Jones’ longstanding relationship with Sanders, it wouldn’t be entirely shocking if the Cowboys owner considered him.

However, despite the speculation, Sanders has stated he’s not interested in coaching in the NFL, and there are valid questions about how well his style would translate to the professional level.

Dallas already faces criticism for having a circus-like atmosphere, and Sanders certainly brings a larger-than-life persona.

Though it seems unlikely that Sanders will become the next head coach of the Cowboys, a change from current coach Mike McCarthy is possible, especially with McCarthy in the final year of his contract, along with most of his staff.

For now, the 3-6 Cowboys are set to host the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football as 7.5-point underdogs, with their season spiraling out of control.

Meanwhile, Irvin appears to be making an effort to persuade his old boss on who should take over next year.
