Pressure Grows for Super Bowl-Winning Coach to Be Fired After Humiliating Defeat

Following the Dallas Cowboys’ devastating 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions, calls are growing for the team to part ways with head coach Mike McCarthy.

With the Cowboys now sitting at 3-3 and having suffered two blowout losses in just six games, fans and media are questioning McCarthy’s future.

While McCarthy is in the final year of his contract, speculation about a mid-season dismissal intensified with the team heading into a bye week.

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones dismissed the idea of making a coaching change in his postgame comments, aiming to quash the rumors.

Pro Football Network’s Sterling Xie emphasized that McCarthy’s job is on the line heading into Week 7, with the Cowboys set to face a tough challenge against the San Francisco 49ers, who have dominated Dallas in recent matchups.

“Given the bleak outlook, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Cowboys decide to make a bold move to salvage their season,” Xie noted in an October 13 report.

“With Dak Prescott firmly established as the franchise quarterback, McCarthy may be the easiest target for change.”

Could Bill Belichick Be in Line to Replace McCarthy?

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been floated as a potential candidate to replace McCarthy, with NFL insiders speculating whether Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would reach out to the legendary coach.

NFL analyst Gary Myers took to social media to question how soon Jones might contact Belichick after the Cowboys’ latest defeat, while outspoken commentator Skip

Bayless joined the chorus, citing last season’s playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers as evidence that McCarthy’s tenure should end.

“Why does Mike McCarthy still have a job?” Bayless asked on October 13.

“After last season’s embarrassing home playoff loss, Jerry should have made a change. So why hasn’t he?”

Jerry Jones: ‘I’m Not Considering a Coaching Change’

McCarthy’s coaching record does include a Super Bowl win with the Packers and three consecutive 12-win seasons with the Cowboys.

Despite the recent struggles, Jones made it clear that he has no intention of firing McCarthy during the team’s bye week.

“I haven’t even considered it,” Jones said after the Lions loss, according to WFAA’s Ed Werder. “I’m not considering that at all.”
