October 14, 2025 — New York, NY

Former New York Jets center and seven-time Pro Bowler Nick Mangold made an emotional announcement today, revealing that he is in need of a kidney donor with Type O blood.

Mangold, 41, shared the news publicly to raise awareness and hopefully find a match, emphasizing the importance of organ donation and early health screenings. Known for his toughness and leadership during an 11-season NFL career, the former Jets standout is now facing one of the biggest challenges of his life — off the field.

“I’ve always believed in the power of teamwork,” Mangold said in a statement. “Now, I’m in a situation where I need a teammate in a different way. I’m looking for a kidney donor with Type O blood who can help me get back to full strength.”

The announcement has sparked an outpouring of support from across the NFL community, with current and former players, fans, and teams expressing encouragement and spreading the word. The Jets organization also released a message of support, calling Mangold “a cornerstone of our franchise and family.”

Mangold played his entire NFL career with the New York Jets after being drafted in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He became one of the league’s premier centers, earning multiple All-Pro selections and serving as a steady leader in the trenches.

Since retiring in 2018, Mangold has remained active in the Jets community and has frequently appeared at team events, including the Jets’ Ring of Honor ceremonies and fan engagements.

In his message, Mangold urged fans to consider becoming organ donors and to learn more about the donation process. “You never know who you might be able to help,” he added. “It could save someone’s life.”
