Jordan Love may have sidestepped a major injury during the Packers’ win over the Jaguars, but the quarterback’s availability for Week 9 remains uncertain.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Love likely “avoided a long-term injury” in Sunday’s game.
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky adds that initial tests didn’t reveal any significant damage, with Love officially diagnosed with a strain.
The quarterback strained his groin and was visibly hobbling during the first half. He exited the game eventually, allowing backup Malik Willis to take over for most of the second half.
Love had previously missed Weeks 2 and 3 due to an MCL sprain, and with the list of injuries growing, the Packers still aren’t planning to ease him back into action.
“If he can go, he’ll go,” head coach Matt LaFleur stated regarding Love’s status for the upcoming matchup (via Demovsky).
“We’ll see where he’s at by the end of the week. But if we feel like he can’t protect himself, we certainly wouldn’t put him in that position.”
The Packers will evaluate Love’s progress throughout the week before making a final decision for Sunday’s game against the Lions.
If Love is sidelined, Demovsky suggests it would likely only be a one-game absence.
Since taking over as the starting quarterback in 2023, Love has had a breakout season, throwing for 32 touchdowns and helping lead his team to the Divisional Round.
He signed a four-year, $220 million extension this offseason and has started 2024 with a 4-2 record and a league-best 7.5% passing touchdown rate.
Despite missing more than two games, Love has also thrown a league-high nine interceptions.
