Lions Signed WR Allen to Active Roster and…

The Detroit Lions made two additions on September 26. The team announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they have signed wide receiver Allen Robinson to their active roster and linebacker Abraham Beauplan to the practice squad.

Robinson initially joined the Lions’ practice squad after being cut by the New York Giants on NFL roster cutdown day. Ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, the Lions promoted Robinson to the active roster.

After a brief return to the practice squad, Robinson is now set to permanently occupy a spot on the team’s active roster.

Robinson, who has recorded three 1,000-yard seasons in his NFL career, made the Pro Bowl in 2015 with 80 receptions, 1,400 receiving yards, and a league-leading 14 touchdowns while playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Beauplan will take Robinson’s place on Detroit’s practice squad. The linebacker was with the Lions during the preseason but was released on August 27. Last season, Beauplan signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent.

Lions Sign WR Allen Robinson to Active Roster

Robinson made his 2024 debut with the Lions in Week 3. He played just one offensive snap and didn’t participate on special teams. However, Robinson is expected to provide added receiving depth for Detroit moving forward.

With his addition, the Lions now have six receivers on their active roster, including Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, Isaiah Williams, and Tim Patrick.

Robinson is versatile, able to line up both outside and in the slot. Last season, despite only posting 34 catches for 280 yards with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Robinson was praised for his blocking ability.

Over the last three seasons, the 31-year-old has not averaged more than 10.8 yards per reception. The last time he surpassed 500 receiving yards was in 2020, when he recorded 102 catches for 1,250 yards and 6 touchdowns for the Chicago Bears.

Originally drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Robinson has played for the Jaguars (2014-17), Chicago Bears (2018-21), Los Angeles Rams (2022), and the Pittsburgh Steelers (2023).

Lions Add LB Abraham Beauplan to Practice Squad

In addition to Robinson, the Lions announced the signing of Beauplan on September 26.

Beauplan has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game. His previous experience in the league came with the Minnesota Vikings under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Beauplan could potentially provide the Lions with insight during their 2024 matchups against the Vikings.

Minnesota heads into Week 4 with a 3-0 record. Their defense ranks second in points allowed and third in takeaways through the first three games.

Beauplan played college football at Marshall. From 2020 to 2022, he recorded 231 total tackles, including 24 tackles for loss in 35 games. He also tallied 3.5 sacks, 3 pass defenses, 5 forced fumbles, and 1 interception.
