The Coach Accelerator Program, first launched in 2022, was part of a league-wide initiative aimed at increasing the representation of minority coaches in leadership positions. It was designed to provide promising candidates with direct exposure to team owners, general managers, and front-office executives, while offering professional development in leadership, communication, and business acumen.
The program was seen as a key component in the NFL’s broader diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, especially in light of ongoing criticism over the league’s lack of minority head coaches and executives. According to the latest data, despite more than 70% of NFL players being Black, only a small fraction of head coaches and general managers come from minority backgrounds.
