Leonard Williams & Byron Murphy II injuries Raise Concerns and…

The Seattle Seahawks made several roster adjustments ahead of their Week 4 game against the Detroit Lions, highlighted by the signing of former Super Bowl-winning cornerback Tyler Hall. Hall, a member of the 2021 Los Angeles Rams, appeared in four games during that season.

Additionally, the Seahawks brought in defensive tackle Matt Gotel, with both Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II dealing with injuries. Gotel is no stranger to Seattle, having been on the Seahawks practice squad last year. He impressed during training camp but was sidelined due to injury.

As for Hall, the veteran cornerback played in 11 games (including three starts) for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. To make room for the new acquisitions, Seattle released former second-round pick Marquise Blair once again.

It’s been a tough stretch for Blair, who was initially cut before Week 3, only to be re-signed to the practice squad. The Seahawks have now released the veteran safety for the second time in less than a week.

Seattle also created an additional roster spot by placing running back George Holani on the practice squad injured reserve. The Seahawks are dealing with multiple injuries at running back, with star player Ken Walker also out with an abdominal issue.

Injuries to Seahawks’ Leonard Williams & Byron Murphy II Raise Concerns

The signing of Gotel draws attention as it remains unclear how serious the injuries to Williams and Murphy are. Both left the field during the Seahawks’ Week 3 win over the Miami Dolphins and did not return. In addition to Seattle, Gotel has also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and the XFL’s San Antonio Brahamas.

“I don’t know the extent of it,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said of Williams’ injury during a press conference on September 22, 2024.

“It’s somewhere in the midsection. I’m not sure if it’s ribs or something else, but we got some scans. I’m not sure what the results are yet, so we’ll know more in the next couple of days.”
