Former Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Myles Adams has joined a new team, upgrading to the top of the NFC standings.
The injury-plagued Detroit Lions signed Adams off the Seahawks’ practice squad on Saturday.
Since NFL rules prohibit players from being signed from one practice squad to another, Adams will be on Detroit’s active roster for the foreseeable future.
To recap, Seattle waived Adams from their active roster after claiming former Los Angeles Chargers safety A.J. Finley.
After clearing waivers, Adams re-signed to Seattle’s practice squad on Thursday, which also saw the release of defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna.
This roster shuffle largely went unnoticed as it occurred on Thanksgiving.
The Lions, currently 11-1 and on a 10-game winning streak, are dealing with a slew of defensive injuries.
Since defensive end Aidan Hutchinson broke his leg in October, Detroit’s defense—one of the league’s best—has been further depleted.
Linebacker Alex Anzalone is sidelined with a forearm fracture, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez is out for the season with an ACL tear, and defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo is also done for the year with a knee injury.
Additionally, defensive linemen Levi Onwuzurike and Josh Paschal are unlikely to play against the Green Bay Packers next Thursday.
In response, the Lions have signed three players from other teams’ practice squads: Adams, linebacker Kwon Alexander (Denver Broncos), and defensive lineman Jonah Williams (Los Angeles Rams).
Adams has been with Seattle since 2020, frequently moving between the active roster and practice squad.
In 26 career games, he has recorded 30 tackles, three quarterback hits, one pass deflection, and one sack.
Given Detroit’s injury situation, Adams could see significant playing time as soon as next week.
With Adams’ departure, the Seahawks now have an open spot on their practice squad.
