The San Francisco 49ers have used multiple safeties throughout the season, and they are set to introduce another new face in their upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Ahead of their Week 8 matchup, the 49ers made two elevations from the practice squad.
Kicker Anders Carlson will once again fill in for the injured Jake Moody, who is still recovering from a high ankle sprain.
With Talanoa Hufanga on injured reserve and veteran backup George Odum listed as questionable due to a knee injury, the 49ers have also decided to elevate Adrian Amos.
Signed to the practice squad just last week, Amos brings familiarity with the defensive scheme, having played in a similar system with the New York Jets and Houston Texans last season.
There is growing concern over Hufanga’s chances of returning to play this season, though he plans to wear a cast on his wrist to try and make a comeback.
If he is unable to return, Amos could serve as a crucial depth option behind young starters Ji’Ayir Brown and Malik Mustapha.
While Amos might not see extensive defensive snaps on Sunday, he will be eager to make a strong first impression.
