DJELO (2.25) looks like a promising bet to secure victory in the BetMGM Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter today.
The six-year-old began his career over fences with three impressive wins, showing the potential to be a standout two-miler.
His progress was halted earlier this year when he was taken out at the first fence in the Lightning Novices’ Chase, a race won by today’s rival, JPR One.
However, DJELO bounced back with a season’s best performance at the Cheltenham Festival, finishing third in the Turners Novices’ Chase.
Trainer Venetia Williams is just getting into the swing of the season, but a win in a valuable prize at Ascot last weekend suggests her stable is in excellent form.
Meanwhile, Paul Nicholls, who has won three of the last four editions of the 3m novices’ chase, has CAPTAIN TEAGUE (1.50) representing him today.
With only two rivals in the field, CAPTAIN TEAGUE is expected to start as an odds-on favorite.
Although he underperformed at the Festival, the winner of the Persian War and Challow over hurdles last season begins this campaign as one of the yard’s most exciting young chase prospects.
BRENDAS ASKING (3.00) looked set for a more comfortable win at Ludlow last month but was held back by an error and stumble at the last.
She’s well-positioned for another victory today.
Additionally, Harry Skelton could extend his lead in the jump jockeys’ championship aboard COCO MADEMOISELLE (3.35).
