⚡ Practice at IRP Delayed Due to Lightning in the Area

July 25, 2025 – Indianapolis Raceway Park

Fans and teams at Indianapolis Raceway Park (@RaceIRP) will have to wait a bit longer for the engines to fire. Practice has been officially delayed due to lightning in the area, forcing NASCAR officials to clear the track and implement standard weather safety protocols.

⛈️ Safety First

Per NASCAR policy, any lightning strike detected within an 8-mile radius triggers a mandatory 30-minute delay from the most recent strike. That clock resets with each additional lightning detection, meaning teams, fans, and officials are now on weather watch.

Spectators have been advised to seek shelter, and teams have pulled cars back into the garage area as storm cells move through central Indiana.

🕒 Waiting Game Begins

The delay comes just as anticipation was building for a key practice session ahead of this weekend’s racing events at IRP, which include action from the Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, and local support series.

This session was expected to be critical for teams to dial in their setups on the short, technical oval—a track where handling is everything, and every lap of preparation counts.

☁️ Forecast in Focus

While current radar indicates scattered storms in the vicinity, officials remain optimistic that the session will resume once conditions are deemed safe. However, with Indiana’s famously unpredictable summer weather, there’s no firm timeline yet.

NASCAR’s race control and IRP officials are closely monitoring radar and will provide further updates as soon as they are available.

📢 Stay Tuned

As always, safety comes first—for drivers, teams, officials, and fans.

We’ll keep you posted with the latest from Indianapolis Raceway Park as the situation develops. For now, practice is on hold, but the action isn’t over—just temporarily paused.
