Eighteen-year-old Connor Zilisch’s NASCAR Cup Series debut at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) on March 2, 2025, was marked by both promise and premature conclusion.

Driving the No. 87 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing, Zilisch’s race ended abruptly following a collision with his teammate, Daniel Suárez.
Zilisch’s weekend began on a high note. On Saturday, he secured his second career Cup Series victory during the qualifying race, showcasing his potential by overtaking seasoned drivers like William Byron and Sam Mayer.
He celebrated this achievement with a burnout at Turn One, leaving a lasting impression on fans and competitors alike.
However, during Sunday’s main event, Zilisch’s fortunes took a downturn. Mid-race, Suárez’s car spun unexpectedly, and Zilisch, unable to evade in time, collided with his teammate’s vehicle.
This incident led to significant damage to Zilisch’s car, forcing him to retire from the race and resulting in a last-place finish among the 37-car field.
Despite the early exit, Zilisch’s performance throughout the weekend highlighted his potential in the NASCAR Cup Series.

His ability to compete with and surpass veteran drivers underscores a promising future in the sport. As he gains more experience, many anticipate that Zilisch will continue to make significant strides in his racing career.
