BREAKING: Porsche Penske #6 Disqualified from Le Mans Qualifying for Weight Infraction

June 12, 2025 — Le Mans, France — In a dramatic turn of events at the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans, the #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport entry has been disqualified from the Hypercar qualifying session after failing to meet the minimum car weight requirement, according to an official decision released late on June 11 by the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) stewards.

The decision — officially labeled as Decision No. 66 — states that after post-session technical checks were conducted with team representatives present, the #6 car was found to be underweight, breaching Article 4.1 of the 2025 LMDh Technical Regulations and WEC Committee Decisions D29 and D31.

As a result, the car has been disqualified from the qualifying session and will now be required to start at the back of the grid in its category for the main event, as per Article 10.2.2 of the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans supplementary regulations.

The inspection process, which occurred at the end of qualifying, revealed that the minimum weight standard was not met. After reviewing the Technical Delegate’s report and receiving confirmation from the team manager regarding the procedures followed during scrutineering, the stewards imposed the penalty.

“The Car 6 did not comply with the minimum car weight,” the decision states. “The Stewards decided to impose the disqualification of car 6 from the qualifying session.”

In addition to the disqualification, all competitors who had been classified behind the #6 Porsche in the qualifying order will be moved up in the classification, in accordance with FIA Sporting Code Article 12.19.

The decision was signed by six stewards, including Jean-François Veroux (Chairman of the Panel) and representatives from both international and national stewarding bodies.

Porsche Penske Motorsport has the right to appeal the ruling under the provisions of the FIA International Sporting Code and the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the specified time limits.

This is a significant setback for the factory-backed Porsche team, which had high hopes for a strong showing in this year’s legendary endurance race. The disqualification could impact both their race strategy and momentum heading into one of the most demanding events on the WEC calendar.

Further updates are expected as the team evaluates its options ahead of Saturday’s race start.
