Chase Briscoe Joins Local Students to Paint the Iconic ‘Turtles’ Ahead of Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 Weekend

The build-up to the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway got a colorful and meaningful boost this week as NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe teamed up with area students to help paint the track’s famous “turtles.”

The bright, raised rumble strips—nicknamed turtles by fans and drivers alike—play a vital role in shaping the unique road course-oval hybrid, serving as visual and physical boundaries for competitors. In recent years, Charlotte Motor Speedway has invited students from the local community to assist in preparing the turtles for race weekend, giving them a direct connection to one of NASCAR’s most innovative events.

Briscoe, who drives the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford, grabbed a paintbrush and joined in the tradition. For the Indiana native, the project was more than a simple paint job—it was a chance to bond with the next generation of NASCAR fans.

“It’s pretty cool to get out here with the kids and give them a hands-on experience,” Briscoe shared. “These turtles are such an important part of the ROVAL. They’re part of what makes this track so challenging, and now the students can say they played a role in race weekend too.”

The event also served as a learning opportunity, allowing students to see firsthand how much preparation goes into transforming Charlotte Motor Speedway into a world-class road course. Beyond the paint, the turtles carry a symbolic weight, reminding both fans and drivers of the ROVAL’s reputation for unpredictable drama and wild finishes.

Since its debut in 2018, the ROVAL™ has delivered some of the most thrilling and talked-about races on the NASCAR calendar, often with playoff implications. For Briscoe and the field, every detail—including the freshly painted turtles—will matter when the green flag waves.

As the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 weekend approaches, fans can look forward not only to the intense playoff battles but also to a track prepared with community pride, thanks to the collaborative effort between NASCAR, local students, and Chase Briscoe himself.

The race weekend kicks off soon at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and with Briscoe lending his time to inspire students and celebrate tradition, the stage is set for another unforgettable ROVAL showdown.
