Derrike Cope Launches Cope Family Racing for 2025 Xfinity Series Season

NASCAR veteran Derrike Cope is embarking on a new chapter in his storied career, announcing the formation of Cope Family Racing (CFR) to compete in the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series. The team, a family-driven venture, will field the No. 70 car, with Leland Honeyman Jr. and Thomas Annunziata sharing driving duties.

The Vision Behind Cope Family Racing

Cope, a former Daytona 500 winner, is no stranger to building and leading race teams. This time, the effort is deeply personal, with family at the heart of the operation.

“This is a dream come true for my family and me,” Cope said during the announcement. “We’ve always had a passion for NASCAR, and we’re excited to bring that passion to the Xfinity Series with Cope Family Racing. It’s a fresh start, and we’re ready to take on the challenges ahead.”

The No. 70 Team: Drivers and Schedule

CFR will field the No. 70 Chevrolet Camaro, with Leland Honeyman Jr. and Thomas Annunziata splitting driving duties throughout the season. Both drivers represent the next generation of NASCAR talent:

• Leland Honeyman Jr.: A rising star in the ARCA Menards Series, Honeyman has shown promise with multiple top finishes and an aggressive but composed driving style.

• Thomas Annunziata: A driver who has gained attention in late-model racing, Annunziata is eager to make his mark in NASCAR’s Xfinity Series.

While the full schedule of races for the No. 70 car is yet to be determined, Cope hinted that the team plans to enter a mix of superspeedways, intermediates, and short tracks.

A Strong Foundation with RCR and ECR

To ensure competitiveness in their debut season, Cope Family Racing will partner with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and ECR Engines. The team will receive cars from RCR and engines built by ECR, giving them access to proven equipment used by some of the top teams in the series.

“Having the support of RCR and ECR is invaluable,” Cope said. “It gives us the foundation we need to be competitive right out of the gate. We’re incredibly grateful for their trust and partnership.”

Challenges and Goals for 2025

Launching a new team in the Xfinity Series comes with its fair share of challenges, from assembling a strong crew to competing against well-established organizations. However, Cope remains optimistic about what CFR can achieve.

“Our goal is to learn and grow with each race,” Cope explained. “This is a long-term project, and we’re focused on building something sustainable and successful.”

For Honeyman and Annunziata, the opportunity to drive for Cope Family Racing represents a chance to develop their skills and establish themselves as future stars in NASCAR.

A Legacy in the Making

Derrike Cope’s return to NASCAR as a team owner adds a new dimension to his already impressive career. Known for his stunning 1990 Daytona 500 victory, Cope has remained a respected figure in the sport, both as a driver and a mentor.

Cope Family Racing reflects his commitment to giving back to the sport by creating opportunities for young talent while honoring his family’s love for racing.

Looking Ahead

As the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season approaches, all eyes will be on Cope Family Racing as they make their debut. With a strong lineup of drivers, support from RCR and ECR, and a wealth of experience from Derrike Cope, the team is poised to make an impact.

While challenges are inevitable for a new team, Cope Family Racing’s arrival is a testament to the enduring spirit of NASCAR, where dreams and determination can still fuel a competitive race team. Fans will eagerly follow their journey as the No. 70 car takes to the track, representing a new legacy for the Cope family.
