Frankie Muniz Balances Hollywood and NASCAR with ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Reunion Series

Frankie Muniz, best known for his role as Malcolm in the beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, is proving he can juggle life in the fast lane—both literally and figuratively. The actor-turned-race car driver confirmed that production for the highly anticipated Malcolm in the Middle reunion series will accommodate his full-time commitment to the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Muniz, who completed a successful rookie campaign in the ARCA Menards Series in 2024, announced late last year that he would graduate to the Truck Series for the 2025 season. Despite his growing career in motorsports, he assured fans that he’s fully committed to revisiting his iconic role.

Balancing Two Passions

“It’s a dream come true to return to Malcolm in the Middle and work with the cast again,” Muniz said in a recent interview. “At the same time, racing has become such a big part of my life. Thankfully, everyone involved in the reunion series understands my schedule, and we’ve made it work so I can fully commit to both.”

The reunion series, which has been in the works for years, will reunite Muniz with co-stars Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, and the rest of the original cast. While details about the show’s plot remain under wraps, it’s expected to revisit the quirky family dynamics that made the sitcom a cultural phenomenon in the early 2000s.

A Custom Production Schedule

According to Muniz, filming for the series will take place during breaks in the NASCAR schedule. NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series typically features races on weekends, allowing him to dedicate weekdays to production.

“The NASCAR season is intense, but the schedule gives me some flexibility,” Muniz explained. “We’ll film on my off days, and I’ll have time to prep for both racing and acting. It’s going to be busy, but I love both challenges.”

Bryan Cranston, who played Hal, Malcolm’s eccentric father, expressed admiration for Muniz’s ability to juggle two demanding careers. “Frankie’s always been incredibly driven, so it’s no surprise to see him excel in something as competitive as racing,” Cranston said. “We’re all excited to have him back on set, even if he shows up with a little tire rubber on him!”

From Child Star to Rising NASCAR Talent

Muniz’s journey from Hollywood star to professional race car driver has been anything but conventional. After stepping away from acting in the mid-2000s, he pursued a career in motorsports, racing in various series before finding his footing in NASCAR. In 2024, Muniz impressed fans and critics alike with consistent performances in the ARCA Menards Series, securing multiple top-10 finishes and earning a shot at the Truck Series.

His transition has been met with widespread support from both the racing and entertainment worlds. NASCAR fans appreciate his dedication to the sport, while Malcolm in the Middle fans are thrilled to see him return to his acting roots.

A Year to Remember

With the 2025 NASCAR Truck Series season kicking off at Daytona International Speedway and the Malcolm in the Middle reunion series slated to begin filming shortly after, Muniz is gearing up for a whirlwind year.

“It’s the best of both worlds,” Muniz said. “Racing is my passion, but I’ll always love acting. To have the opportunity to do both at the same time is incredible.”

Whether he’s behind the wheel of his truck or back in Malcolm’s shoes, one thing is clear: Frankie Muniz is still at the top of his game. Fans of both NASCAR and Malcolm in the Middle have a lot to look forward to in 2025.
