Joey Logano will roll off seventh in tomorrow night’s Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, but he’s making it clear—this track is nothing like the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
With both venues being quarter-mile bullrings, some might assume Bowman Gray and the Clash at the Coliseum offer similar challenges. Logano, however, explained why that’s far from the case.
Bowman Gray vs. The Coliseum
“People think just because it’s another short track that it’ll race the same, but it’s completely different,” Logano said. “The Coliseum was built for stock cars. Bowman Gray wasn’t. It’s an old-school bullring that has a history of rough racing, and it’s a whole different level of tight quarters.”
At Bowman Gray, the track is built around a football field, meaning the racing surface is extremely narrow. Unlike the Coliseum, which was designed with some extra racing room, Bowman Gray’s tight, flat corners and lack of runoff space make it even more difficult to avoid contact.
Logano’s Game Plan
Starting seventh gives Logano a decent track position, but with beating and banging expected, he knows survival will be just as important as speed.
“You have to expect contact. There’s nowhere to go if something happens in front of you. If you get stuck on the outside, good luck. It’s all about managing the chaos.”
Can Logano Conquer The Madhouse?
Logano has proven he can win on short tracks, including his Clash victory at the Coliseum, but Bowman Gray presents a new challenge. If he can stay out of trouble and make the most of his starting spot, he just might be in contention when the checkered flag waves.
One thing is for sure—tomorrow night’s race will be nothing short of a wild ride.
