Lionel Racing, the official die-cast partner of NASCAR, has announced a price increase for its standard 1:24-scale race-winning diecasts due to a significant 54% tariff on diecast imports. The company will raise prices on these popular collectibles by 18%, a move that’s already sparking conversation among fans and collectors.

The 1:24-scale race-winning diecasts are some of Lionel’s most sought-after items, often featuring exact replicas of the cars as they crossed the finish line, complete with damage, confetti, and sponsor decals. These premium models are celebrated for their detail and authenticity—but now, they’ll come at a noticeably higher cost.
Lionel cites the 54% tariff on diecast imports, primarily affecting products manufactured in China, as the driving factor behind the price adjustment. While the company has absorbed rising costs in the past, it stated that the latest increase made it necessary to pass a portion of the burden onto consumers.
“We’re committed to maintaining the quality and authenticity our customers expect, but the increased cost of production due to tariffs has left us with no alternative,” the company explained in a recent statement. “This 18% price increase is a direct result of the 54% tariff now imposed on diecast imports.”
Collectors have had mixed reactions. Some understand the economic pressures facing manufacturers, especially amid inflation and global trade tensions, while others are frustrated by yet another price bump in an already expensive hobby.
The new pricing will take effect immediately on all future race-winning diecasts, including special editions and playoff models. Lionel did not specify whether similar increases are planned for its other scales or lines, such as the more budget-friendly 1:64-scale models.
As the tariff landscape continues to shift, diecast collectors may need to prepare for more changes on the horizon. For now, Lionel remains committed to transparency and to delivering high-quality NASCAR collectibles—albeit at a higher cost.
