Off The Bench: NASCAR Rivalry Heats Up, ACC Tension Simmering, NCAA Claims Victory

In recent sports developments, tensions escalate in NASCAR, the ACC finds resolution, and NCAA tournaments showcase thrilling victories.

NASCAR Feud Intensifies

NASCAR has filed a countersuit against Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing and co-owner Curtis Polk, alleging violations of antitrust laws. The suit claims that 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports interfered with NASCAR’s broadcast negotiations and organized boycotts, labeling their actions as those of an “illegal cartel.” NASCAR seeks triple damages and threatens to revoke the teams’ guaranteed starting positions in the Cup Series if disputes persist. This countersuit responds to an October 2024 lawsuit from 23XI and Front Row, which accused NASCAR of monopolistic practices and an unfair revenue-sharing model. A jury trial is scheduled for December 1.

ACC Achieves Resolution

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), along with Clemson and Florida State, has settled ongoing legal disputes and agreed on a revised revenue-distribution model. The new structure considers television viewership, potentially benefiting schools with prominent football programs. Revenue will now be split, with 60% based on viewership ratings and 40% distributed equally among member schools. This settlement aims to stabilize the conference’s future and addresses concerns about competitiveness with other major conferences.
