Rare Penalty for Chase Elliott: NASCAR Calls Pit Road Violation

In NASCAR, penalties on pit road are common—speeding, commitment line violations, and uncontrolled tires happen almost every weekend. But on  Chase Elliott was hit with a rare infraction: not being single-file while entering pit road.

It’s not a penalty you hear called often, but NASCAR made the ruling clear. Elliott, who had been running competitively, was deemed to have violated the rule when he approached pit road in double-file rather than lining up properly. The call cost him valuable track position and forced him to fight his way back through the field.

“Wow, that’s one you don’t hear very often,” echoed fans and analysts alike. While the rule exists to maintain order and prevent unsafe situations during pit cycles, it’s not one that gets enforced frequently—making this a tough break for the No. 9 team.

Elliott and his team now have to regroup and refocus as they continue their push for strong results. While the penalty was an unexpected setback, it’s another reminder that in NASCAR, every little detail matters—including how you line up before a pit stop.
