Robert Wickens to Achieve Milestone with IMSA GTD Debut at Long Beach

Seven years after a life-altering accident at Pocono Raceway left him paralyzed, Robert Wickens is set to make his debut in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GT Daytona (GTD) class. Wickens will co-drive the No. 36 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R alongside Corvette Racing factory driver Tommy Milner at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 12, 2025.

Wickens’ return to top-tier motorsports has been facilitated by innovative technology. The Corvette Z06 GT3.R is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic hand-control braking system developed by Bosch, allowing Wickens to operate the vehicle entirely with his hands. This advancement builds upon his previous experience using hand controls in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, where he competed in a Hyundai Elantra N TCR.

Reflecting on his journey, Wickens expressed enthusiasm about his progression in motorsports:

“Thanks to Bosch, General Motors, and DXDT Racing, my comeback will progress next spring when I make my IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut in the No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R on what will likely be the sun-splashed streets of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.”

Co-driver Tommy Milner brings a wealth of experience to the team, having secured multiple victories at Long Beach and boasting an impressive track record with Corvette Racing. His collaboration with Wickens is anticipated to be a formidable pairing in the GTD class.

The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach holds special significance this year, celebrating its 50th running and 50th anniversary. The event features a 100-minute race on the iconic 1.968-mile street circuit. Fans can catch the action live on April 12, with coverage available on USA Network and streaming on Peacock.

Wickens’ participation marks a significant milestone in his racing career and serves as an inspiring testament to resilience and innovation in motorsports.
