State Police Warn of Traffic Delays Near Pocono Raceway During Upcoming NASCAR Weekend

As the NASCAR Cup Series returns to Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, for the highly anticipated “Great American Getaway 400” on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Pennsylvania State Police are urging drivers to prepare for significant traffic delays in the area.

Special Traffic Patterns Implemented

To manage the influx of race fans and ensure safety, special traffic patterns will be in effect on race day:

Pre-Race Traffic Flow: Starting at approximately 11:00 a.m., Route 115 from Interstate 80 to the raceway will be converted to a one-way southbound route with two lanes open. This pattern will remain until all inbound traffic has entered the track grounds or congestion has eased. Post-Race Traffic Flow: With about 25 laps remaining in the race, Route 115 from the raceway back to Interstate 80 will switch to a one-way northbound route with two lanes open. This configuration will continue until all vehicles have exited the parking areas. During this time, southbound travel on Route 115 south of I-80 will be prohibited. Stoney Hollow Road Restrictions: Stoney Hollow Road, between Long Pond Road and the I-80 overpass, will be designated a no-parking and tow-away zone. Vehicles parked in violation will be removed at the owner’s expense. I-80 Exit Closure: Following the race, the I-80 eastbound off-ramp at Exit 284 (Blakeslee) will be closed to traffic to facilitate smoother outbound flow.

Anticipated Traffic Congestion

The race weekend coincides with the start of the summer travel season, leading to increased traffic volumes not only on Route 115 and I-80 but also on Routes 209, 940, and 903. Motorists are advised to expect delays and consider alternate routes such as I-80, Route 33, Route 209, and the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Weather Considerations

Weather conditions can significantly impact traffic flow. Past events have seen severe weather causing delays in parking operations and leading to substantial traffic backups. Attendees should monitor weather forecasts and plan accordingly.

Recommendations for Attendees

Early Arrival: To avoid peak congestion, fans are encouraged to arrive early. Stay Informed: Keep abreast of traffic updates and weather conditions through local news outlets and official channels. Follow Signage and Instructions: Adhere to posted signs and directions from law enforcement and event staff to ensure a safe and efficient experience.

By planning ahead and staying informed, attendees can help mitigate traffic challenges and enjoy the excitement of NASCAR racing at Pocono Raceway.
