Townsend Bell Returns to Racing with Vasser Sullivan for Rolex 24 at Daytona

Veteran racer and television analyst Townsend Bell is set to make a notable return to competitive racing, joining Vasser Sullivan Racing for the upcoming Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. This marks Bell’s first driving role in three years, during which he has primarily focused on his broadcasting career.

Bell will be behind the wheel of the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, competing in the Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) class. In addition to his driving duties, he will continue his role as a broadcaster, providing analysis during the NBC telecast of the race.

The opportunity arose when Vasser Sullivan Racing required a substitute driver, and co-owner Jimmy Vasser extended the invitation to Bell. This collaboration reunites Bell with the team, as he has previously competed with Vasser Sullivan and Lexus, achieving one victory and five podium finishes during his tenure.

Bell’s return to racing comes after a challenging period personally. Recently, he and his wife were forced to evacuate their Pacific Palisades home in California due to encroaching wildfires.

The fires caused significant damage to their residence, rendering it uninhabitable for an estimated year. Despite these hardships, Bell remains optimistic, viewing his return to racing and continued broadcasting work as positive focal points during this tumultuous time.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is scheduled for January 25-26, 2025, at Daytona International Speedway. Bell’s participation adds a compelling narrative to the event, blending his dual roles as a driver and broadcaster, and highlighting his resilience in the face of recent personal adversity.
