GALOP DE CHASSE (3.00 Wetherby, nap)
Trainer Venetia Williams had a standout season last year, reaching a decade-high with 60 winners from her Herefordshire stable.
Among them was this eight-year-old, who made a strong return after a break, winning at Newbury in November. That form has since been validated, with the runner-up scoring a win afterward.
Though a minor issue kept him off the track for the remainder of the season, it’s not a concern as he tends to perform well fresh, boasting two wins and a second for Williams on his seasonal debuts.
This intermediate 2m3f distance, tricky for some, suits him perfectly. He’s reliable across various conditions but shines on decent ground.
BRIDGET MARY (3.45 Uttoxeter, nb)
Showed considerable improvement with a comfortable win on her chase debut at Stratford just 25 days ago.
While she made a couple of expected errors, she kept going strongly to the finish. Trainer Rebecca Curtis has a promising prospect with her, and the 4lb rise in weight still seems quite manageable.
ON THE RIVER (4.02 Newmarket, treble)
He’s thriving on autumn ground, with recent wins at York and Haydock over shorter distances. Last time out, he finished strongly in challenging conditions at Haydock, and this extra quarter-mile should be within his scope.
The booking of Richard Kingscote by trainer Harriet Bethell adds further appeal.
CHARLOTTE’S WEB (2.30 Newcastle, Lucky 15)
Can weave her way to another win after a convincing success at Wolverhampton last time out.
It’s still early in her career for the Crisfords’ filly, and the step up in distance could bring out even more improvement.
