Irish jockey Jack Kennedy has suffered a broken leg for the sixth time in his career following a fall at Fairyhouse, where his horse Twoohthree tragically died.
Kennedy, 25, was competing in the opening race of Saturday’s meeting for trainer Gordon Elliott when the pair fell heavily at the final fence.
While Twoohthree was fatally injured, Kennedy received immediate on-track medical attention.
“Jack has broken his right lower leg and has been taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for further treatment,” confirmed Richard Downey, medical officer for the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board.
Despite a career marred by injuries, Kennedy has achieved significant success, including multiple Grade One wins and a Cheltenham Gold Cup victory aboard Minella Indo in 2021.
Trainer Gordon Elliott later secured a win with William Butler in the closing bumper but expressed his sorrow over Kennedy’s injury.
“It’s heartbreaking for poor Jack to break his leg again. It casts a shadow over the day, but that’s the nature of this sport,” Elliott said.
