NASCAR Introduces Dual Tire Compounds for 2025 cup series

NASCAR has released the tire allotment chart for the 2025 Cup Series season, introducing notable changes aimed at enhancing competition. A significant update is the inclusion of an option tire for the March 9 race at Phoenix Raceway. This softer compound tire, designed to offer increased grip and faster lap times, will be available alongside the standard primary tire.

For the Phoenix event, teams will receive the following tire allocations:

• Practice: 1 primary set and 1 option set

• Qualifying: 1 primary set

• Race: 6 primary sets, 2 option sets, plus the qualifying carryover set

Teams have the flexibility to strategize the use of these tires during the race, choosing when to deploy the option tires for optimal performance.

The option tire was previously tested during the 2024 All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway and the summer race at Richmond Raceway, receiving positive feedback for its impact on racing dynamics.

If the option tire performs well in the spring Phoenix race, NASCAR may consider adopting it as the primary tire for the Championship Race at Phoenix in November.

This initiative reflects NASCAR’s commitment to enhancing racing excitement and providing teams with strategic choices through tire options.
